DTS is making milk cooling simpler and more efficient with two new farm-ready options available across its stainless steel vat range: double wall insulation for improved thermal efficiency and a glycol compatible base tailored for farms using glycol refrigeration systems.
“These features have long been applied in our other commercial holding tanks, so it made sense to bring the same practical solutions to our dairy customers,” says DTS CEO Gavin Thwaites. “It’s about transferring proven and enhanced performance functionality from other industries into the dairy sector.”
For farmers looking to reduce power use, double wall insulation helps maintain optimal milk temperatures while reducing refrigeration demand.
“A double wall vat will deliver cumulative savings year after year, for the entire life of the vat,” says Thwaites. “Vats and tanks have a very long useful life, where in most cases they’ll outlive your refrigeration system. That’s why we want to build efficiency into the vat itself. When you do, you not only reduce running costs but also eliminate the need for complex setups that often require specialist support.”
The new glycol compatible base provides a streamlined solution for farms already using glycol. Instead of either accepting suboptimal performance or attempting to modify existing vats, farmers can now order specifically designed for glycol cooling, direct from the factory.
“We saw customers modifying our vats for glycol and thought, we’re already doing this in other commercial markets, let’s make it easier,” says Thwaites. “It’s a practical, ready-to-go option.”
DTS stands out in New Zealand as the only company that not only supplies dairy and commercial refrigeration systems but also designs and manufactures stainless steel tanks and vats in-house. That expertise, spanning both tank and refrigeration system design, means they understand vat internal thermal dynamics better than anyone else. “If there’s a milk vat on your farm, there’s a good chance DTS designed and built it,” Thwaites adds.
Leveraging this integration lets DTS deliver systems that perform and reduce operating costs. “If you begin with a double-walled vat and pair it with A2L refrigeration, you get a sustainable and highly energy-efficient system that helps farmers achieve reliable, efficient milk cooling that pays back over time. That’s real value,” explains Thwaites.
Both the double wall upgrade and the glycol compatible option are now available across the full DTS milk vat range, reinforcing DTS’s commitment to delivering practical, future-ready dairy technology that puts farmers first.
